What I’ve learnt in 2015 – Sophia

2015’s been an exciting year for the Intelligent Ink team, and we’ve all learnt a lot along the way. In this end of year series, each Inker takes a look at what they’ve learnt and how that’s impacted on their lives – you might call it a peek inside the minds of the Inkers. Here’s to another year of learnings and laughter – see you in 2016!

Sophia Berry-SmithThe move to online to-do lists

I find this one a little hard to admit as I have always been one for a written diary, as opposed to say, an online calendar. And while I still very much need a written form of tasks for the day to keep my brain intact and any overwhelming feelings at bay, I have certainly got into the groove of updating media notes, client databases and workloads online, and am finding it very handy! Tools like Asana make it easy to see an overview of what is due for any one client at a given time, gives the ability to look and plan ahead and set up future reminders, and it’s also pretty satisfying being able to tick off a task and see it disappear before my eyes!

Lunch life in the city

More than three months into working at Intelligent Ink and in the very hub of multiple food choices – both expensive luxury café eats to cheap and nasty naughties – I have decided that often the hassle and time-wasting wander or wonder of what to buy for lunch is far too mundane; bringing in lunch is much easier. I do however, now know where to wrangle a cheap lunch from time to time. I also can’t hide that I would be non-functional without my morning coffee and felt incredibly blessed when the local downstairs, Little& Friday, picked me as one of their recipients of free coffees until Christmas, for the whole month of December – trim mocha bliss!

Networking

After coming back to PR-land following an extended overseas trip, it’s been great to be refreshed on the importance of networking and attending out-of-work social events. It’s a lovely mix of the excitement of meeting new people, having new experiences and interactions, learning something new, while also working to subtly generate awareness of what we do as Inkers, and potentially making some new contacts. Even though life is busy, it’s nice to know the benefits of being social out of the office, and I’m keen to make even more of an effort in 2016.
